Preamp for iPhone — Privacy Policy

1. What this policy covers
This policy covers the Preamp iPhone app ("the App") and nothing else. The Preamp website at preamp.audio is a separate service with its own Privacy Policy, because it offers accounts and paid memberships that the App does not.
The App does not collect your personal information. There is no sign-up, no account, no password, no email address, no payment, and no advertising. We do not know who you are, and we have not built anything that would let us find out.
2. What the App stores, and where
The App keeps three things, and all of them stay on your device:
- Acts you star. Saved locally so they are there when you come back.
- A tally of your taps. Counted by day and kept for about the last three months, so the App can show you how much you have listened. It is a small list of dates and numbers on your phone, used only by the App.
- Which acts you have already heard. Remembered so the App can play you something new instead of repeating itself.
None of it is transmitted to us, to any server, or to anyone else. We cannot see any of it. Deleting the App deletes all three.
3. What the App connects to
The App makes requests to a small number of places, none of which involve an identity:
- preamp.audio — to download the current list of acts. This is one public file. The App sends no account, no cookie, and no identifier with the request.
- Apple (iTunes Search API) — to find the 30-second preview for an act. Audio streams from Apple's servers, and Apple's own privacy terms apply to it.
- Artist images — each act's picture is loaded from the image server the act's own music service publishes it on, which today means Spotify's image servers and, for some acts, Deezer's. Loading a picture sends nothing about you beyond what any image request necessarily carries.
- Spotify — only if you tap to open an act there. That hands you off to the Spotify app or website, and anything you do from that point is covered by Spotify's privacy policy, not ours.
As with any internet request, the servers involved receive the network information a request necessarily carries, such as an IP address, and may keep ordinary security and operational logs. We do not use that information to identify you, build a profile, or track you across apps or websites, and we do not combine it with anything else.
4. What the App does not do
To be explicit, the App contains:
- No analytics of any kind.
- No advertising, and no ad identifiers.
- No third-party trackers or marketing SDKs.
- No location, contacts, photos, microphone, or health access.
- No data sold or shared with anyone. We have nothing to sell.
The App does not ask for any permissions beyond what iOS grants automatically to play audio.
5. Crash reports and App Store data
If you have opted in to share diagnostics with Apple, or if you install through TestFlight, Apple may send us crash logs and basic aggregate statistics. That information comes from Apple, is not linked to your identity, and is governed by Apple's own privacy terms. We use it only to fix problems in the App.
6. Children
The App is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone. Since the App collects no personal information at all, there is nothing for a child, or anyone else, to disclose to us.
7. Information about musical artists
The App displays information about musical artists — names, artwork, listener counts, and the dated observations Preamp records about them. That information is gathered from public and third-party sources as part of how Preamp works, and is described in Section 9 of the website Privacy Policy. Artists who want to request removal can write to privacy@preamp.audio.
8. Your choices and rights
Because the App holds no personal information about you, there is nothing for us to look up, export, correct, or delete on request. Everything the App stores is on your phone and under your control: clearing it is as simple as deleting the App.
If you live somewhere with specific privacy rights, such as California, the EEA, or the UK, those rights still apply to any information you send us directly — for example, if you email us. Write to privacy@preamp.audio and we will answer.
9. Changes to this policy
If we add a feature to the App that changes any of this, we will update this policy and change the effective date above before that feature ships, not after. If a change is significant, we will say so in the App's release notes.
