How Preamp
started

A few months ago, if you’d told me I’d be building a music app, I’d have laughed.

I was building something else entirely: an engine for spotting early movers in crypto. Code that watches lots of small signals, in lots of places at once, and notices what’s starting to move before everyone else does.

Somewhere in the middle of it I wondered what would happen if I pointed it at music.

I’d been frustrated for a while. Finding artists early was slow. The big playlists run on pitches and promo budgets, and the people building great ones of their own take real digging to find. Feeds just read your own history back to you. I’d see an act pop up on socials here and there, and know they were already percolating in other places, but nothing was listening to all of them at once.

So I rebuilt it for music. It worked better than I expected, and I kept building.

That’s Preamp. It listens to every source, not one algorithm reading your history. It finds what’s rising. One tap and it’s playing.

And it’s fast. I want to hear what a band sounds like, right now. If I’m into it, I save it. If not, I’m on to the next one.

Then there’s the walk. Tap an artist and the ones around them light up: the scene they came out of, the acts that turn up alongside them. Tap one of those and the map moves with you. Before long you’re somewhere you’d never have gone looking.

I built it for myself first, then thought I’d share it. Try it, and see if it does for you what it did for me.

Hope you enjoy it.
